Michael Maye is a woodturner based in Swinford Co Mayo. Michael is a member of the Irish Woodturners Guild and is also a member of Craobh Eo Woodturners, the Mayo chapter of the Irish Woodturning Guild. Michael is also a member of the Irish Native Woodland Trust.

Michael’s interest in woodturning began in the late 80’s attending woodwork class’s in his 1st year in secondary school in Foxford. There was a strange looking machine in the corner or the woodwork room which was very seldom used. In 1993 Michael got his first woodturning lathe, thanks to his father! From there his woodturning journey began. Spending a lot of evenings in his workshop, Michael’s woodturning was self taught in the early days. This was of course long before the internet was common place, YouTube was not yet invented! Even the Irish Woodturners Guild was still only in its infancy.

Michael turns a large variety of items from various native to exotic woods. Anything from pens to bowls to clocks can be turned. Michael can also laser engrave text and photos onto most woods to personalise your wood turned item. Michael sources all his wood from sustainable sources and all exotic woods are purchased from licenced importers.
