These Spalted Beech tea light holder trio are very striking with this unique spalting. Spalting is a result of fungus growing on the tree after it is felled. The secret is to mill the timber at the right time. Different species of fungus results in different colouring’s of the wood. No two pieces are identical. These 3 tea lights are from the one length of timber. Each tea light comes with a brass insert to protect the timber from the candle.
The tea lights are turned and sealed with sanding sealer and then sanded down from 240 grit, through the grades to 1000 grit. Two coats of EEE paste wax is then applied, buffing between each coat. A further two coats of shellac friction polish is then applied buffing between the coats. This gives a hard wearing durable finish while still retaining the natural feel of the wood.
Wood is a natural material and the colour and grain of the wood will differ. This is what makes each tea light unique!
